a serious observation about hypocrisy

...hypocrisy about wanna-be filmmakers.

i just made a short movie for school and i won the first prize at the festival where i sent it. now i got an article on newspaper and NOW people seem to be intrested in my work. before they always take this thing with sarcasm and irony wich i had pretty enough.

Do you have ever find yourself in a situation like that?

I see where you're comin' from. A few years ago when some friends and I started actually pumping out some DV projects that were relatively thought through and not for a school project or something, people were generally not that supportive. But we kept on trekkin' and eventually they started saying to us "you guys were going to be like..." this other group of apiring filmmakers in our town. At the time I hadn't heard of them so upon checking them out, I found that they started a little after we did, and were planning to make a feaure for 1 million dollars. That is all fine and good except now, over a year later, they still haven't produced a frame of their own project and still have a lot of support. But now since we have some festivals, prizes and television things under our belt, we are starting to get similar recognition they had with having done nothing. But anyway, whatever.

What's your point? Are you complaining that people didn?t take you seriously because you hadn?t won any awards? Man, firstly, you have prove to the world that you actually have talent?

People are bound to take you seriously if you win a few awards. Now that you?ve showcased and proved you have talent - by winning awards - people will obviously listen, as you're obviously serious about wanting to make it. Is that not obvious? It is to me.

You don't get in paper by sitting on your **** and proclaiming "I'M A FILMMAKER, LISTEN TO ME!!"

I've been into filmmaking for nearly four years, but my family have only just started taking me seriously. They all assumed it was a phase I would grow out of.

lol Despin. There is no hypocrisy. Its just life-untill you've actually achieved something no one is interested. So you didnt get support from everyone you met along the way? AWWW.

weel, you cannot say there's no hypocrisy when one day a guy tells you 'hey man, this fimmakig thing is just for crazy as.sh.ole.s' and the day after they go like 'how, a prize! that means you have some talent!'.

if someone's talented you can actually recognize it also in little Hi8 short movies. I watched some stuff on this forum and on other websites and i can say some people got fresh, clear talent. That's all i wanted to say.

But it's really a shame when people just laugh at you, 'cause their only experience in guerilla filmmaking is watching DAWSON'S CREEK on TV...
